Changes in the dignity of Employee and Employer

Where your talents and the needs of the world cross; there lies your vocation.

                                                        Aristotle
Employment means the relationship between two persons where one provides the service and the other pays for it. The person who employs is known as the employer and the person being employed is the employee.
The employer can be anyone from large corporations to NGOs and businessmen. People have been employed to complete tasks of the employer in return for a certain payment for a very long time.
The relation between an employer and employee has not changed much over the years. However, unlike earlier when the employee was not much respected, in today’s era employees and employers share a mutual respect and trust. To protect the employees from unscrupulous employers countries developed laws. These made sure that the employer pays the required amount in exchange for their service. Nowadays the employee needs to sign contracts with employers to begin their work, and the term of employment is dictated by the contract. Self-employment is a term that means being employed in one’s own business. Both of these employments have their own share of advantages and disadvantages.
Employment is in huge demand right now due to the increasing population. It provides a way to earn money and live one’s life peacefully.
It is quite common nowadays for people to be self-employed, rather than working for a company or organization. This essay will look into the reasons for that change, and then discuss some of the disadvantages of being self-employed.
In the information era, it is quite possible for people to work at home on their computer. The internet has opened up all sorts of possibilities in terms of making money, and so people may work as freelancers or start their own company. It has never been easier to do this because in the past working for yourself required renting an office or shop, whereas now you can simply set up a website or social media profile. People typically prefer this because it allows them a great deal of freedom. A person who prefers nights and loathes waking up early might choose to conduct their business at night, whereas someone who likes to travel might work from a laptop while visiting different places.
Of course, there are some disadvantages to being unemployed. This sort of employment lacks the security of a traditional job. In most countries, workers are protected by laws that guarantee them certain rights. However, with no employer and no workplace, these laws do not apply. Similarly, traditional jobs provide pension plans and health insurance, but when you work for yourself you have to provide these yourself, and they are not cheap. In fact, most self-employed people simply forego these things and take the risk as a part of their comparatively free life.
In conclusion, being self-employed allows people a far greater degree of freedom in their life, but there are several significant drawbacks that mean this sort of work is not suitable for everyone.
Life without work is not possible. People spend most of life time at work, position at work shows person’s position in life, good career position shows person’s achievements in life.
Also work – is person’s identity: it means that profession and sphere of work influence person the most, it determines his knowledge, his view points and also a way to show who a person is. Work is something where people constantly discover themselves, their potential, their character and talants – it is a mean of self-identification.
It is necessary to point out about the impact of employment on people. In the absence of regular employment, a person lacks not only a place in which to work and the receipt of regular income but also a coherent organization of the present – that is a concrete system of expectations and goals. Regular employment provides the anchor for the spatial and temporal aspects of daily life. It determines where you are going to be and when you are going to be there.
